The packing box may seem like a simple thing, but in fact it becomes extremely important when it is suddenly the last barrier between your precious items and damage! You will no doubt find that the buying of the humble packing box becomes an important exercise when this is in mind. A few hints and tips on how to get your packing box needs sorted may well prove useful in such a case...To start with, always consult your removals company on which boxes you should buy. At the same time, don’t just rush in and buy loads from them, as you need to do your win research to work out whether you believe in their choices. The fact of the matter is, your removals company will be supplying removals boxes to all of their clients, and they will get them for a knocked down rate, cutting out the middle man. However, this discount may or may not be passed on to you, so doing a few price checks will ensure that you are able to get good value on your boxes. Double walled, single ply, stapled, taped, the list of different box types you can get goes on and on, just ensure that you are getting a box that will be tough when stacked, and won’t crumple when knocked about, as otherwise your things will be in jeopardy. When looking online, you will likely find that people are giving away their old boxes for cheap or even free. The fact is, this is a risk. If you are not totally confident that the boxes have not been used before, then avoid buying second hand boxes. If they are cheaper than regular retail price but are basically new, then all the best to you! However, this is rarely the case and old boxes can be a nightmare for your removal! A box that has been used will often have been dented and folded a little, which obviously means that it will not stand up to the same pressures as a new box would. Most of the time this is not an issue, but sometimes it can mean that a box will collapse in a stack, sending the whole stack flying! Cover delicate items with bubble wrap, and mark the boxes with them in clearly. Ensure that all fragile items are packed together, rather than lumped in with heavier items that could cause damage to them, as the vibrations in the van will move things around, causing chaos within the boxes if you are not careful! Tissue and newspaper can be wrapped around things that are less likely to break, but which might be marked, like crockery and tougher glassware. Labeling all boxes with the appropriate information about their contents will mean that the boxes are not treated equally, otherwise you may find that a box full of delicate china is being used to hold a door open, or at the bottom of a pile!
