Removal firms: which one is right for you?

So, you have decided to thin out the clutter in your life, and move to a different part of the country. You have got your heart set on a particular place, and you have decided to leave the transportation of your goods in the hands of a removal company. The question now, is how do you decide which one to go for? By taking heed of these suggestions, that decision will hopefully be made easier.
Make a list of your needs (or non needs)
This might seem trivial, but you’ve got to keep in mind the variety of services that a removal company may offer, such as ‘packing and unpacking’, ‘dismantling and reassembly’ and cleaning services to name just a few. If you’re disabled, or hiring on behalf of a disabled person, these services are absolutely necessary, for example. Or if you’re in a particular hurry. Just make a note of them, and when you get to the research stage, ask if they have them and if they will add to the cost in a substantial way. If you are only travelling a short distance, a man and van remover may be a good addition to your list. As long as they are a reputable, professional sort, of course.
Ask for recommendations
Recommendations can come from a neighbour, relation, a friend, or even from websites that include the experiences of other ordinary people. Take care to ask about the amount of care they took with possessions, attention to detail with their cleaning and packing services, and their general attitude. Make sure to make note of the companies to avoid, as well as the ones to seek out.
Compare prices and make sure it’s not too good to be true
Once you’ve made a short list, then you should start comparing prices. Make sure you include any additional and hidden costs. Most companies either charge per hour, per mile, or a mixture of both. Do some research in how far you have to travel, and make a note which company will give you the best deal.
Once you’ve got that down, double check each company’s history and make sure you aren’t dealing with a ‘cowboy’ mover who won’t provide the service you expect. Check for proof of insurance rather than taking their word for it. And check for other services, such as a no obligation comprehensive survey and see if they provide materials for packing, even if you weren’t planning to use such a service. A cowboy mover will most likely not offer these services, and will not treat you as a valued customer.
Remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. A cowboy mover will look cheap at the outset, but will most likely be riddled with those hidden costs I mentioned earlier. Read the fine print before you sign any agreements.
Try to make the best of the move
Now that you’ve decided on your removal company of choice, the most important part can begin. Removal is a very stressful business for all involved, but it also means a fresh start, or a cleansing of the soul, if you will. If you keep a positive outlook, and a positive rapport with the movers, the transition from old house to new home will be smooth.
